Positive, Reward-Based Dog Training in Beaver & the Greater Pittsburgh Area

At Happy Feet Dog Training, we help dogs and their people build reliable behavior through trust—not fear. Using science-backed, positive reinforcement (R+), we make training fun, practical, and tailored to your lifestyle.

Real Training. Real Connection.

At Happy Feet Dog Training, we believe good behavior starts with a good relationship. That’s why our training focuses on trust, communication, and understanding—not control or intimidation. Using positive reinforcement and science-based methods, we help you teach your dog in ways that make sense to them.

Whether you’re navigating puppyhood, polishing manners, or working through big feelings like reactivity or fear, our goal is to help you build a bond that makes training feel less like a struggle—and more like a conversation.

We don’t believe in creating “robot dogs.” Your dog’s individuality, emotions, and choices matter. Our approach supports your dog’s autonomy while still teaching the skills they need to live safely and comfortably alongside the people they love. We focus on building thoughtful, confident dogs who can make good choices—not simply follow commands.

We also don’t believe in one-size-fits-all programs. Every dog is different, and every household is unique. That’s why our private training sessions are designed to support both you and your dog at your own pace, with practical strategies that fit your real life.

Just as importantly, we don’t train your dog for you—we teach you how to train your dog. You’ll learn how to build and generalize skills so your dog can listen and succeed with you in everyday situations, not just during lessons. We help you learn how your dog communicates, how to recognize their signals, and how to clearly communicate your needs back to them—so you can truly understand one another and will have the skills to continue building progress long after your sessions are over.

🐾 Why “Happy Feet”?

The name Happy Feet comes from the joyful little “tippy taps” some dogs do with their front paws when they’re really happy — whether it’s greeting a favorite person, waiting for dinner, or seeing their leash come out for a walk.
That’s what we want every dog and owner to feel: that same tail-wagging, happy-feet enthusiasm in every moment of life together.

Our Services

Our private, one-on-one training is built around what matters most to you and your dog. Whether you’re raising a puppy, building everyday manners, or starting fresh with an adult dog, your sessions are tailored to your goals, your routine, and the real-life challenges you want to work through together.

Initial Consultation

A thoughtful first step into training.
This 90-minute session is where we get to know you and your dog. We’ll talk through your goals, review your dog’s behavior and history, introduce the foundations of positive reinforcement (including clicker training if appropriate), and get you started with practical skills you can begin using right away.

Dog Training

Real-life results for dogs of all ages.
Whether you’re struggling with leash pulling, jumping, reactivity, or just need better communication, our private dog training sessions are personalized to help you build reliable behavior and a stronger relationship—without intimidation or quick-fix gimmicks.

Puppy Training

Start your pup off on the right paw.
Early training helps prevent future problems. We’ll focus on confidence building, socialization, house manners, and basic cues—while helping you understand how your puppy learns, what to expect, and how to create lasting habits from day one.

Training That Builds Trust and Lasting Results

The best training isn’t just about getting your dog to listen—it’s about helping them feel safe, confident, and connected to you. At Happy Feet Dog Training, we use positive reinforcement to teach real-life skills through clear communication, not fear or intimidation.

Our approach is rooted in science and compassion, focusing on what motivates your individual dog. While some call it “force-free,” we simply call it building better behavior through trust, kindness, and understanding.

Whether you’re raising a puppy, working on leash manners, or navigating reactivity, we’ll help you build a stronger bond and lasting success—step by step.

How It Works

Every dog and every household is unique — so our training is, too.
Whether you’re raising a puppy, working on everyday manners, or starting from scratch, we offer one-on-one training tailored to your dog, your goals, and your lifestyle.

Getting started is simple. You can book online — or reach out by phone or text — to schedule a 90-minute consultation, which also serves as your first training session. During this visit, we’ll talk through your goals, any challenges you’re facing, and what matters most to you for your dog and your household. We’ll also begin hands-on training right away.

Based on your goals, your dog’s needs, and your budget, we’ll help you decide whether a pay-as-you-go option or one of our training packages is the best fit for you.

Some families only need a few sessions to feel confident and see meaningful change. Other goals — especially more complex behavior challenges — may take additional lessons. Either way, your training plan stays flexible and continues at your pace. We’ll keep working together for as long as you need, until you feel your goals have been met and you have the skills and confidence to continue your training successfully on your own.

Alexa Sharp-Wiley CPDT-KA

Certified Professional Dog Trainer

Hi, I’m Alexa—the trainer behind Happy Feet Dog Training. I became a trainer because I genuinely fell in love with learning how to train my first dog and seeing how happy and proud he was when something finally clicked, and I wanted other people to experience that same joy and connection with their own dogs. I help dogs and their people build real communication through positive-reinforcement, science-based training that’s tailored to your dog, your household, and your goals. I believe training should feel fun, supportive, and empowering—not intimidating—and that progress comes from understanding how everyday moments (including the behaviors we accidentally reward) shape what our dogs learn over time. I also train and compete in dog sports with my own dogs, and I love showing families that there’s so much more you can do together than just go for walks—and that activities like agility and scent work are truly accessible for everyday dogs and people. My goal is simple: to help you feel confident, connected, and genuinely excited about learning and growing with your dog.

Whether you’re dealing with reactivity, puppyhood chaos, or just want calmer walks and a better bond, I’m here to support you without judgment—and without pressure.

Alexa did a wonderful job with our Aussiedoodle puppy “Leo”. I opted for the one-on-one class. He has learned so much in the last few months (sit, stay, place, recall, loose leash walks, etc.). I tried another larger class who recommended pinch collars. I could never do that. Happy Feet Training works on reward training. This was so much better! I highly recommend Alexa and Happy Feet Dog Training. They’re wonderful!

Alexa helped me with my anxious dog that was made worse by another dog trainer. She was very kind and understanding of our past training methods and helped us ween off to positive reinforcement only which greatly helped his anxiety and gave me the happy, well-behaved dog I always knew he could be!

I’ve taken group classes with Alexa twice now. I love her classes. With Alexa’s help, I’ve been able to sharpen my wolfhound’s skills. Whether you are new to training, or have some prior experience, Alexa can help you achieve your training goals. When I work with my dog, I want it to be a bonding experience. I want training to be fun. Alexa makes training fun. She has a strong and positive relationship with her dogs, and that shows in her training. Do not hesitate to reach out to Alexa! She travels! She can observe and work with your dog in the environment where the issues occur. By having the flexibility to work in home, in public or in a training facility, Alexa can more accurately and effectively pinpoint training issues and address your needs.

Happy Feet provided our family the perfect opportunity to further bond and train our pup, a Spring doodle. We could not have asked for a better experience: small group as well as individual instruction, practical suggestions that really work, affordable, and enjoyable interactions working our dog.
